I don't know about the west but here in Southeast Asia, everyone drank alcohol when they are small lol. It happens a lot in the West also. Here in the UK, except Northern Ireland, the minimum legal age for drinking alcohol at home is five!

I'd challenge the 1 second estimate, just because it's manga and time passes uncertainly between the panels.

As far as quantity, Umeshu (plum wine) has a 10-15% ABV and he chugged a juice glass of it. That's like shotgunning four Budweisers back to back, or slamming 3 shots of whiskey. I drink regularly and if I did that, I'd be buzzed after a minute too. For a skinny kid who has zero alcohol tolerance, he'd be reasonably floaty.

Mom give me a sip of beer when I was 8 because she doesn't want to pay more for swwet drink and I was thirsty, at a restaurant or something.

Japanese, but often asians in general lack certain enzymes so they have trouble metabolizing alcohol and thus can get drunk easily, my mother has a similar genetic defect and can easily get drunk on a 2-3 glasses of red wine.
