Likely isn’t. She’s extremely clingy and worried about losing him so far so it has more to do with an issue of self esteem more likely.

My guess is likely she’s either being bullied in some way or it could be depression due to another issue entirely.

this is the best guess so far, truth is shes like this cuz of her genetics, the author made another canon serie and when u finish it you would see that har mom is the same

The link to her past childhood was also my first thought (and it is most likely true), but because we don't know how she reacts and talks to other people, I didn't discard the other possibility. The title in english also being "Mikoto-chan Doesn't Want to Be Hated!", though we don't know if this refers to people around her or just the MC.
We simply need to wait and see. Judging from the cover of Vol. 3 we don't need to wait too long.

You're right on the money. Just looking at this volume's cover art, Mikoto's right eye and face are covered in a scar tissue from a burn.

I suspect that someone on her household (father, mother, etc.) dumped burning water onto her face, and that broke Mikoto.
