The other one's still a bit too awkwardly literal for my tastes in places, but what is "but according to your demeanour" even supposed to mean, and how is "if you won't take the necessary steps" clearer than "if you're not gonna make a move"at least with your version we understand what reina says in the last few pages, jesus christ that senko one was rough to read
If a translator is using DeepL as a dictionary, they're not a translator. There's dozens of Japanese dictionary and resources across the web. This is some "if the typesetting is nice and the grammar is clean that means it's not MTL" cope.I mean, using tools as DeepL while also having the nessecary language skill to make the translations easier is perfectly fine. What's not fine is using these tools without knowing the language, because the translation quality is really low. (If you can't understand the base text, you can neither confirm nor deny the accuracy of the translations)
Frankly the entire response was just multiple pages of semantics and gymnastics. Very few actual counterpoints were provided and was mostly just paragraphs of personal attacks.@MyleneScans I don't know if it's because English is your 3rd language or not but your rebuttal to the claim you aren't a native Japanese speaker actually just confirms you aren't a native Japanese speaker. As a dual national myself I get it but I would never dream of calling myself a native speaker for my 2nd language despite the fact that I learned it the exact same way I learned English, by people speaking it around me, consuming media in that language, etc.
It is fun seeing all the scanlators I read series of in the same comment section though
I disagree.Honestly, though I might be in the minority for saying this, Senko pissed me off first. THEY dragged all of this drama in first. Why? Because another person/group began translating the same thing. Like.....oh, no, anyways. Just present your version of the chapter. It doesn't negate the work. People will still read it regardless and thank you for it.
This isn't like another taco truck beating out another taco truck by showing up 10 minutes earlier and now I already ate and too bad, I'm not paying/eating again scenario. So stop treating it as such.
FFS.
Okay, let me reframe the "taco truck" to something else. Cosplay.I disagree.
Translating a work required dedication and effort. It's also mostly a hobby. Your only real incentive is seeing people enjoy the thing you create.
Imagine you run a taco stand that's decently popular and then someone else comes and gets there earlier with what they consider "better" tacos. (Whether they are or aren't isn't important)
You'd cut your losses and move somewhere else. Losing motivation and probably feeling slighted at the gall.
"Why couldn't they sell somewhere else?" you ask (read: translate something else)
But alas. Then if those people decide to stop translating it, there'll be no taco stand there at all and the people who wanted to eat will go hungry. After all, what's stopping it from happening again?
In the end there's other untranslated mangas you could better spend your time doing. Rather than getting into petty beef over wanting the sandbox to yourself.
Honestly the funniest part is how the whole rant reads like it was fed through ChatGPT for a rewrite before posting...Gets called for being MTL, confirms it's MTL but edited then talks about better quality. Almost as funny as AI "artists"
