Hmm... I like this one. Old cultural traditions clash with modernity, with a healthy mix of the paranormal. Perhaps I'm not so enmeshed in Japanese culture to pinpoint why exactly this is a "Reiwa-era" ghost story, but there are some allegorical similarities--the adjusting to a new environment, the cultural traditions such as a "Golden Week" and "May Sickness" no longer applying to the new and strange.

I'm definitely missing a lot of cultural context here... but sudden illnesses like that, or being unable to recover quickly from an illness hits different in a world with covid. Not only do we have to deal with the initial infection, we also have to worry about long covid, and a whole host of chronic illnesses or immune system fuck-ups that are triggered by the infection.

It's only a flu, right? Just "May sickness"? Nothing more. Just the new normal after being employed. You'll recover in a week's time, surely.
