That's funny. "Ha-gu". for those who don't know, is katakana. It's primarily used for words which are foreign to japan, unlike Hiragana which is used for Japanese words. So (ハグ) (ha-gu) is just the English word hug broken down into close enough syllabus in japanese. So yes it's literal translation is "hug".
