I don't think this is the case. In chapter one goblin says, "when I got up this morning, everyone around me acted as if I had always been a girl." While it isn't directly stated, it can be inferred that she said something to her parents about being a boy. If her mom had gone through the same thing she would have figured out what was going on; even if she doesn't remember her daughter being a son.
