Those parents are... a real breath of fresh air, and what characterization for Haru here. I've already liked him, but he's genuinely a cool kid that I empathize with. The guilt at feeling relief is a seriously smart choice here, he's trying to do what's right because he wants to do right. Since his parents aren't on his ass about doing shit, it's internal motivation. Getting the belt back and suddenly realizing its weight, after he had just become used to it over time? That's such a cool detail. Cause he would! Losing the belt, his authority figures telling him "don't worry about it," and then getting it BACK? That's when he'd feel what it means to accept it.
