I know it's for the bit, but if the examining instructor alone can cause that much collateral damage, you'd think they'd make the training ground big enough that they don't destroy any buildings, just dirt and cheap wood fencing and benches. Or if they don't have the land for that, go outside the city for examining potentially powerful mercenaries.

I'm glad they went in the "guns are still overpowered, but look, this is a real fantasy world, the top adventurers are really fucking tough, a powersuit doesn't automatically make the MC god-tier" direction.

I think its just a case by case basis.

Yeah, but if someone would rather pay a small fee for the travel time instead of being billed for repairs after, you could just ask them if collateral damage would be an issue if they went all out, and then go outside of the city to an empty field if they say yes. I mean they even act like he's a nobody when he walks in with a recommendation. My point is that in a world where people can single handedly destroy buildings, and you literally have one of those people on staff to test people, it's kinda dumb to not account for that in any way when testing people who could be that strong within shockwave distance of your building. Especially if the test is supposed to test their upper limits, the testing grounds should be able to handle the upper limits of your own instructor at least.
