it’s obvious to us because that’s a trope. It’s what would make most sense for the story but why the freak would anyone living in the story think that? The saint mentioned a daughter yeah but he even he wouldn’t think she might still be alive millennia later. She was just a kid when he left, not some kind of god-tier ninja assassin. Nobody in the story would have Any reason to think she might be the witch other than the fact that she would hate the church. But the church also shot civilization backwards by a few thousand years. A lot of people must hate them

yeah i dont get why mc is so hung up on the witch being bad. the only ones that say the witch is bad is the church who has been proven to be corrupt and wrong about literally everything.

Because there's no proof she wasn't. The fact that the church is a bad guy doesn't prove that the Witch isn't what they claimed her to be. Enemy of your enemy isn't always your friends.

okay and? there is no proof she was bad either outside of the churches claims really and we have several occasions of "proof" of the church labeling non bad things as bad...

how many times will you let someone blatantly lie to you before you stop believing them.

not to mention the witch was known for giving out powers, AND she is sealed in a tree that provided protection from monsters. that doesnt sound like the makings of a bad person and at the very least the witch would have no reason to go against the MC.

You are not looking from the character's perspective. What you are saying just pure conjectures and you know it most like be true because that's the usual trope. But for the characters in the story, they have no such information. What will happen if the witch REALLY is as bad as the church claim? They will definitely be fucked. They don't even know how strong she is and whether they have enough fire power to stop her. I'm pretty sure they will eventually do more research about her in the upcoming arc, but until they have enough information, being cautious is the right call.

TLDR: What they are doing is very rational.

But for the characters in the story, they have no such information. What will happen if the witch REALLY is as bad as the church claim? They will definitely be fucked. They don't even know how strong she is and whether they have enough fire power to stop her. I'm pretty sure they will eventually do more research about her in the upcoming arc, but until they have enough information, being cautious is the right call.

again the characters have zero reason to trust the churches labels... i should stop calling them a church they arent even a real religion, theyre a scamming group who "kidnapped" and froze their "god" in time to keep the scam going for 1000s of years. WHICH THE MC NOW HAS BTW unless you are conveniently forgetting that too....
