I don't think they'll be notified, I guess 🤔

@gimme_yuri_plz Yeah, you don't get a notification if you're ignoring someone.

That said, the ignore feature is pretty much useless because it only hides the other person's posts from you. They can still see everything you post and continue interacting with it.

@Litreara In an ideal world, people you ignore wouldn't be able to see your posts

i disagree. being able to choose which users can and cannot see your posts at will sounds chaotic and an unnecessary obstruction of discourse.

@gimme_yuri_plz Yeah, on Reddit and Disqus, when you block someone, you can't see their content, and they can't see or interact with yours either.

@bigtiddyoneesan I understand your point, but if someone is targeting and harassing you, I think it's reasonable to consider making your posts invisible to them

@Litreara
They can also still write on your profile.

but placing that ability in the hands of every forum user is more detrimental to the overall forum environment than relying on moderator intervention in the cases when it's necessary. a forum where blocking is a two-way street would have too many communicative gaps

anyways, my point is that i blocked @BakedBanana, yet i still want to know when he says some bullshit that is patently untrue so i can correct it

jokes aside, allowing every user to block others from viewing their messages at will would be retarded, even assuming mods were incompetent.

But BTO, how am I going to talk about the staff behind their backs if I can't even block them?!

Nah, man, I can't agree with that. There are some people who just aren't worth arguing with or trying to correct. I think it's healthier to simply cut off the interaction. It works pretty well on Reddit.

you can't mass shit talk staff, that was the true intent behind the 6 person DM limit.

i agree that there are some arguments that are completely not worth it, but barring other users from seeing your own posts, at your own discretion, is still a bridge too far, especially on a site like this one. (also R*ddit sucks lol)

Dunno, all I'm gonna say is that I left the comment section of a manga because an insufferable asshole wouldn't leave me alone. And on top of not being able to do anything about it, there's always some clown cheering him on despite having no clue what's actually going on.

I'd rather have the ability to do something about it than not. So even though Reddit kinda sucks, at least it lets me avoid interacting with people I don't want to deal with.

I respect your opinion, but I don't think it's a retarded idea. As @Litreara said, it works on Reddit, which isn't as bad as you think, imo

The only way to know if it would work is to implement it and see how things go

it would fragment discussion and even create separate readings of the same discussions altogether. allowing users to block any and all other users from seeing their posts at will, especially on a forum, is indeed retarded, and it always will be. this is just the truth, and nothing i or anyone else thinks will change that. i, as a user, should not be able to dictate which users can and cannot see my posts.

Hmmm. Reddit doesn't think it's retarded, but okay. It's your opinion

I don't think there's an absolute true about this subject

Since you have such a strong opinion on the matter, I don't think this argument will get us anywhere. However, I'd like to emphasize that not everyone in this post agrees with you. I'm not sure if you're the holder of the universal truth

Peace out! ✌
