I know that backseat translating probably isn't welcome, but I feel instead of "We've been together since I was small" it would be better to put "We've been together since childhood" which preserves the ambiguity in the Japanese text.

The ending is very likely to be set in stone, it's jusr a matter of sorting the real hints from the diversions. I think Nino's out, since the future bride was shown to have an ear piercing and while Nino was interested, she was also very much afraid of it. Whoever turns out to be the childhood...
