I dunno. I'd agree if it wasn't for the fact that Aoyagi intentionally tries to be looked at that way. When they were told that he's not bad by Charlotte, and just witnessed that fact they were open to the idea that they might've had it wrong.
But then Aoyagi stuck to his self-assigned bad guy...
