the ending is not an axed ending, don't worry. 40-end are all one long arc, which gives more than enough to get to a good end.

I agree that a lot can be said about it, and indeed more ends up being said a bit later in the manga... Look forward to it! I do love how all those questions (i.e., what happened to mahiru) get set up... Especially when there's a track record of them being answered.

I'd certainly like to! However, because the raws of the magazine aren't that good (at least, where I could find them), I'm going to hold off on really thinking anything about that until volume 1 releases. Questions of "having the staff for it" aside, of course.
