Yeah, that's a tourist trap all right. Right off from the arrival, some of the locals will display stereotypes foreigners are accustomed to, badger them into an experience or hand them an object and immediately demand an outrageous fee. Depending on the scam, the angle they'll use could range from intimidation, embarrassment, and threats of legal action.
I used to live in Brazil and China when I was younger, I didn't really enjoy the experience because being a foreigner means people see you as a walking purse. Even if you're not that wealthy...
You end up being restricted in foreigners' social circles and not really fitting in the country.
