Why is she, right now, more worried about the conditions for seeing the future than the latest glimpse of the future? It seemed pretty bad, though it was also exactly what she was pondering about before, that the empress would try to ruin the merchants' guild. That being said, though, it wouldn't be difficult to strike back, if she wanted to. Of course the empress, that is, the imperial house, has a whole lot higher threshold for reputation damage than any random noble family, but it can still be done. Funnily enough Char personally has a high threshold as well because almost everybody still think she's a villainess! People will expect the worst from her anyway. Maybe that's one reason why the empress is attacking the whole Lianta house, not just Char herself.
All that being said, since Sasha exists, the empress is sitting on a shaky chair with a missing leg. If the empress's reputation is suitably ruined, folks will begin to think having Sasha on the throne would be better.
