I felt like this was more of a temporary fix rather than a permanent solution, as it feels like the communication problem between them never got fully addressed.

I think it's intentional, unfortunately. We have Kyotaro, who doesn't have the best grades and never talks about this problem. We have Yamada, who doesn't tell him about the continue of Kimioku and doesn't tell anyone how she feels about acting in those scenes. They prefer to keep their emotions to themselves, and it could just explode again. Worse, time is running out and it'll be too late.

I think it will be more of a sequel than a continuation of the story. After graduation, the story changes a lot so it is unlikely that it can continue in the same form as it has been going all this time under the same title.
