It's pretty weird how Esemori deaged himself while pretending to be dying under a fake identity, then ACTUALLY died in the flashback to fool all of the medical professionals surrounding Yuko, revived, let himself age, got cancer, let that cancer manifest into the terminal stage, and then deaged himself again when Yuko solved the mystery.

What could he be planning now bros???????

So…. What?
You are telling me this has JUST 4 more chapters… what in the world. This is what I hated about Himegoto as well. The author really doesn’t know when to end a story or how to, for that matter.
Since 2020 ongoing. 4 years on this. I can understand how Ryo grew tired of her artwork. It happens a lot, especially when you don’t have a story in your mind complete from the very first chapter and this… you can feel the story being constructed as we go. It can sometimes work but 99% of time it doesn’t. In my opinion. I feel so betrayed :))) but imma still tune in. I will feel like a feather after its end
At least we got a stab!

Actually Ryo said the ending was solidified from the first chapter in an interview, she just had to get the characters in a state to achieve that ending. She also kind of spoiled the ending in that interview, I'll just say a lot of people aren't going to like it but a lot of others will absolutely love it.

Her approach to writing is "What would this character do next" and not "What would be better for the reader/story", which really shows, for better and for worse.

Gotta add...

Ryou may have just teased the (very obvious and predictable) ending by showing part of what it seems the final chapter color page. There's a naked drowning body that looks like being Nagi's. Go and check her xitter.

lol It's probably Nagi and her uncle (maybe) that will die together, Reiji will survive and live

That would awake some Hoboreru Hanabi (ryou's 1st manga) flashbacks. Girl dies, and boy survives and settles with the girl he didn't fuck or rejected fucking onscreen but still got pregnant with his seed at the epilogue. In Abyss case, that girl would be Chako

Anyway, Ryou already uploaded a draft and from the looks of it... Reiji's dying too

Nah he will live. Someone on 4chan posted that image with Ryo's post translation that is "Near vanishing eyes", so I doubt he will die even more.

What's the point of an ending like that? If anyone besides Esemori and Yuko die, this was a senseless manga with no concept of direction when nobody learns anything. This manga should have ended a year or two before. Sensei should have fucked off a long time ago instead of leeching away panel-time that could have served to make a more coherent ending. She served her purpose 70 chapters prior, but it's like Ryo could never let go of her favorite. Countless episodes that dragged only for Ryo to speedrun at the finish line...

im so confused. so was that kid esemori? that wouldn't make any sense. what does she mean "it was you"?
and also FINALLY MAO GETS STABBED
theres no way the manga can end in 4 more chaps.... it just doesnt feel right, unless they're long. but i guess i'll predict the last chapter to give me some hopium.
yuko and esemori die in the hospital together, after burying mao reiji and shibasawa start trying to rehabilitate nagi, and we see chako visiting gen in the mental hospital.

i think minenami made a self-reference to that earlier, when esemori said he was having trouble ending a story during the flashbacks (can you tell i binged the manga lmao)

I think Yuko has always been a bit cuckoo. That was indeed Esemori at the hospital, years ago, but Yuko was seeing him as “Akira”, the kid she knew and loved. He didn’t remember her, probably due to some memory issues caused by drugs (he did mention having this kind of trouble in the past). That’s why Yuko sees Esemori as the young Akira again at the end. It is how she sees Esemori when she looks at him with love. She sees the Akira kid with whom she fell in love with.
This makes the most sense, imo. It also explains why, in that brief moment, both Yuko and Akira appear as their younger selves again, as Yuko lovingly stares at Esemori while being side by side on the hospital beds.

I guess this finally solves the mystery of the identity of Reiji's dad, it was good old Esemori, Yuko's one true and only love, all along. This is perfect, I always thought this made the most sense and hoped for this to be true. It's only apt that Reiji really is the child young Yuko wanted to have with Esemori after getting married to him in this town.

Page 17... UGHHH MY HEART. The way she lovingly looked at him again, with both of them now reverted to their younger selves who fell hopelessly in love with each other all those years ago in the past, laying down side by side next to each other on the hospital beds.

I don't care that this isn't the genre for it, I cannot help but see how romantic this still is. She truly loved him and only him all these years, same for Akira. Despite all the trauma, all the ways in which she became pathologically maladjusted, being burdened with the generational trauma (The Abyss) she never asked for nor deserved, she still loved him through everything. It's also incredibly sad that she continued to be sexually forced against her will by the men in her life the entire time of the story, even after becoming married and growing into middle-age, to the point that she became jaded and basically didn't even care about being "defiled" anymore. In fact, she seemed to treat is as one of her only avenues of agency, using it to manipulate others to serve her Abyss, seeing as Yuko didn't have much in the way of agency at all, as a child being forced to sell herself.

I hope they can both find solace and happiness in being reunited again and bask in each other's enduring love and warmth for one another. Yuko may not have found fulfillment in her life, but hopefully she finds some happiness and subsequently, salvation through being by Akira's side, her childhood and only love, in their final moments.
