Wow this boss fight. All the phases, the set pieces, the fricken raft ride! Something tells me they aren't quite done just yet.

>this plan relies too much on dumb luck

skill issue
Something tells me that this entire boss fight was designed with a very specific combat strategy in mind that would be rather obvious to a proper party of 5 that cleared the dungeon together in a logical order. You know, like the developers intended.

Instead, they triggered this boss completely out of order and screwed up its phase change mechanics, resulting in this monstrosity. And are still fighting it with a plan that can probably work, cause MMO players.

I gotta wonder why the author bothered making this a video game story rather than just a straight up fantasy or isekai. The fights are just unbelievable for something you’d expect people to do in a game lol.
Thats how every VRMMO-type series is though.

Who's she talking to?

Is this Korean?

Sure you can call it a plan. It's a very fragile plan, but it's a plan.

She's just relaxing in that life ring.

True core found. It's like the other core, but truer.

It IS kinda BS that a boss is inside the boss though, so many players would never be able to figure that out lol.
Add it to the list. It's not a short list of BS things about this boss, and it's not even dead yet. Well, it's dead, but not dead.

because it is actually a video game in universe, with respawns and all that. plus, the webnovel does start having scenes in the real world later on, so can't really do that without it being a game. don't forget the intro made sure that you knew this was in the far future, with flying cars and whatnot, so full dive isn't unheard of

nvm, I was dumb, wasn't a flying car but a blimp. they still got holographic tech, so still future tech

You're conflating the bi-weekly release schedule for poor writing. As someone who binged everything last night I can tell you right now it is objectively not a problem.
To expand on this, think about how much has actually happened. At best we've only been through about 3 episodes worth of content. It's not long at all, its just the bi-weekly schedule that makes it feel that way. No one would care nearly as much if this was weekly.
If anything the pacing is a bit brisk.
The pacing isn't too bad if you think of it as two arcs, with Volume 6 being Lycoris' acquisition, and Volume 7 being her "rehabilitation" from being just a socially anxious wreck, but 17 chapters (plus what's still to come), making up 2 full volumes, or 1/3 of the series' runtime so far, is a LOT to spend just on the new girl, especially without any other members of the core cast. Plus, while I have nothing against them, we still have no reason to care at all about the other party or camera girl beyond their role as party filler for the raid.

Swap Lycoris with Camera Girl and turn this into a 4p raid with the main group that she accidentally stumbled into, and I don't think it'd feel like it's dragging nearly as much.

These is how games are in japan since sword art online. That's why all manga depicts video games like these. The outside world is just not ready for it yet, like with their gundams.

i say too yeah good luck writing a strat guide on this
Ok first your tank bruiser has to get their legs blown off, then you run away, then you stuff a newspaper into its hand, then you ride it, then you have a camera person who is stalking you drain the water while a young girl tanks the boss…

Not only that, but it was also (kind of) explained all the way back in Chapter 3 how the game allows for sequence breaking of quests by self-correcting questlines so that they can still be completed.

I actually like the whole desert merrow fight, but I do hope this is getting to the end of it. After all, once it's over we know we're going back to the tournament arc, so we still gotta finish with that too before getting to something different.

Re: the credits page. Can confirm that clearing a snorkel is a pain, and never had a fancy valve snorkel to work with. I much preferred scuba diving to snorkeling: under the surface, you don't worry about the chop of waves, and with an air regulator, you don't have to worry about choking on water through a snorkel.

It still doesn't feel like it drags for me, though unlike most here I binged it all the other night so without that two week buffer I don't really feel the time between.
Which, I mean, fair. If you're gonna go biweekly try to cover more. However, a not insignificant amount of time is spent on action set pieces, and its so well paneled and laid out that it's practically a full on story board at times. If you were to condense this down to episodes in an anime I definitely feel it'd only be a few episodes give or take.

And if you think really about, there are probably a few Final Fantasy bosses that have mechanics like this.

That's also a problem.

Like, you have a 12 episode season, and then you spend three or four just barely introducing one new main character and a bunch of mobs, with 4/5 of the main cast nowhere to be seen? And once we get through all of this, we still need to have a couple chapters/"1 episode" at least where she actually joins the guild and gets to know everyone.

And after all that, we then finally have to get back to the Guild War storyline, which this has been a two volume distraction from.

Like, as enjoyable as this has been, it feels a lot like the "Next chapter unlocks at Player Level 25, please grind some sidequests and kill time until then" video game mechanic, which, shockingly, also kills pacing.

Which is why they use VR as an band-aid because game mechanics are too hard to write about apparently.

I personally don't think it's all that fair to criticize game mechanics in a far off future where something like Full Dive VR is a thing. The gaming landscape would be completely alien to what it is now, so being upset it doesn't reflect current game design comes across as bad faith. Stories need to be engaged with on their terms, not the readers. Half the problem with media criticism is forgetting this fact.
