I guess it's not guranteed, but I think odds are decent he's reincarnated.

Ehh, other people too have used game terminology, IIRC the generic noble asshat also called him a mob, for example. If that's the basis for someone being a reincarnator, a good third of the city seems to be made up of them.

To be sure I went and checked and the translation did use モブ顔 which is exactly what was translated. I should note though that "Mob" is not specifically a Game Term and even predates most video games. It came about as a term for a "unassuming and boring" Person, a part of the "faceless mob" and it's not uncommon to find even in older Anime (where it actually comes from). So this might not be an indicator of the guy being a Reincarnator.
EDIT: I should add with older Anime I mean before even 1980. I forgot that stuff from 2000 is considered old now.

Except it's not only a gamer term. For gamers it referes to weak monsters.

In novels it refers to back ground characters, which should be a better indicator. But it's not that strict.

Cause another use for the mobs. Are the masses/ordinary people. Which technically he is.

It's crazy that having a hero be just a generally good person is now a subversion of expectations.

I need more series where the protagonist just becomes friends or whatever with the hero without it becoming yaoi bait.

Interesting, it doesn't feel like the guy was isekaied and going through the routes but that he was pure trash to start with, sure the MC actions changed the world setting a bit but I doubt he could have done something to this character before even meeting.
the alternative of course is the when he was training to get stronger his interactions with people made to that "hero" never meet some important people or they didn't correct him when they should have, but that is a massive butterfly effect the MC couldn't predict, or as we see he was too dumb to imagine.
For example someone smarter that knew the plot would have still trained to get stronger, but even avoided the "hero", purposefully going far away from the location where he would grow up, just to avoid the savior fate changing.
