somewhat strange that she didn't see the snake, even though her job is to be a scout.

Oh man that false flag. The more I read this, the more I sympathize with the Dragon duke. No fucking way would I take this borderline tyrant MC as my liege.
The only way he could get my approval back is if he appointed a horse as his chancellor. Now THAT's how you outplay someone in 200 IQ 4D feudal chess.

Shoot. Just noticed the manga calls the thief/scout adventurer Yuno. Is that how it's actually pronounced? Shit, I've been using Yen Press's "Juno" and pronouncing it "JEW-know"... Juna isn't actually a "Yuna", is she?

@Andiza
look cuntcake, i know youre triggered because someone criticized the shitty story you liked and are desperate to find some sort of excuse to proclaim that not everyone is a retard in the manga, but the sheer fact that the entire kingdom was starving to death, because they were growing FUCKING COTTON, and no one questioned it once is just the tip of dumbass berg in this shit story.

Now if actually put 2 braincells together to make a coherent thought, you might have noticed that in most adaptations the ARTIST doesnt have much leeway, unless they get it from the author theselves, so unless you can provide evidence of this ill keep my own assumption that this was either an editorial suggestion.

@pandatime In volume 1 there's an illustration of Kazuya working on a prototype Musashibou. And there's a full sized Musashibou illustration on volume 5 when they're doing a children show. In those illustrations, Musashibou has round up Doraemon like hands instead of fingers.
I just wish we could get Musashibou adventure chapter earlier to flesh out the characters.

@monkey123 Politically the MC's setup is very rushed. Let's take this scenario from the perspective of a duke:

1) King out of the blue appoints an unknown foreigner not of the dynasty as king
2) King subsequently disappears from public, never to be seen again. If that doesn't imply house arrest then I don't know what.
3) I'm not sure if the LN touches on this, but it doesn't seem like this is a matrilineal marriage. A new dynasty is in charge. All your political favors you curried with the previous dynasty? Gone.
4) Foreigner unilaterally appoints a bunch of unknown persons into his council, without consulting you, the Duke. There are literally no vassals on the council. For all intents and purpose, this is abolishing the power of the council to keep the king in check, for any feudal structure this is quite a big deal. It means the king can issue laws without vassals input.
5) Foreigner comes to you and demands you give up the right to organize military force in exchange for... nothing? Again, this breaks the feudal contract. That means you're going to be paying taxes AND levies without any gains. You don't even have any control over the use of the levies anymore.
6) He quotes some random passage about deposing tyrants, but how are you even going to depose him without your own military force (lol)

Now he's pulling a false flag and destroying infrastructure within his own territory, all while an advancing army is coming in. The important stuff like the wells seems to be still intact. The manga doesn't make it clear whose land the MC is doing this to, but if it's a count/baron vassal then that'll be double the tyranny. Imagine if you as a duke found out about that. Doesn't seem like a liege you would trust.

I have a feeling the author is confusing the feudal system with imperial bureaucracies. MC isn't the Yellow Emperor, feudal kings can't strip people of power overtly like this without expecting huge backlash. I understand his need for centralization, but that is something you need to do slowly and covertly in this case. Taking a bunch of steps that basically ensure a civil war while you know external kingdoms have a claim on your land and are eager to take advantage of your position also seems... unwise.

@boag Yeah, the artist just contributes a style and draws the scenes, the author is the one who will make or break a story with the quality of their writing.

@AbuHajaar I think that's the point, the duke represents the feudal system that has to go and thus... well, he has to go. Wasn't there even that Machiavelli quote in one of the earlier chapters about having one chance to be a tyrant (eg, get rid of the dukes) and only one chance? One mans enlightened despot is another mans tyrant after all.

It's kind of hard to come up with a societal system less efficient for organizing a nation than feudalism tho, I don't think anyone would defend that.

@Fapman it means that without stuff to control, MC's about as useful as your ordinary Machiavellian armchair general. his Poltegeist needs stuff to be controlled; i don't think it affects living beings. so in a one v one scenario where MC's got nothing, he's preety much screwed

@boag wow triggered much? they (the people of that world) have the knowledge of medieval era people so it's not about people is retarded or not it just they don't know that yet, since cotton is exported to another country and it gives them money that is the common sense for people with medieval knowledge know after all. think the difference between people with modern and medieval knowledge. and that difference is souma's power

dude really? you don't even consider the EDITOR OF THE MANGA ADAPTATION want to change souma to be a little less cruel by doing that? since in the light novel BOTH OF THE AUTHOR AND EDITOR is okay with souma use the village as bait and make the village get destroyed by amidonian and quite possibly amidonian kill or rape the villager too

@Lazycakes If you go by the listing on NovelUpdates, it's Vol1, Interlude 1 (between chapters 3 and 4). It's the last chapter of the first volume of the LN if you're reading it that way (Extra Story after the Epilogue).

The only thing retarded and shitty here are your arguments. Of course peasants would grow a product that would bring them higher profit. For all they know they can just buy food with the extra money they earned. They have no way of finding out that there is food shortage because there are not enough people who grow food. They have no internet, they have no television, they have no radio, they don't even have the goddamn newspaper (most of them are probably illiterate anyway). As for the government, well the only reason Souma found out about this is because he spent weeks buried in the mountains of paperwork with help of multiple assistants.

In fact very similar thing is happening right now in our world. People don't want to be farmers, they want to be something that pays more like software developers. So in order to make it easier for less farmers to produce more food they do things like genetically modify it and pump cattle with hormones.

Look at this. This is what we eat. Now tell me again how are people of that fictional medieval world any more retarded then the people of our real modern world?

The MC already said his actions are a form of cruelty. He wants to achieve centralisation quickly in order to not become a tyrant. Why strip the dukes of their power? He explained it already: There are bigger threats like the demon country and other human countries so he needed a direct chain of commands.

What would the dukes gain? It was also explained in the previous chapters. Read it again. For example modernization of infrastructure and supply of food. If those 2 stubborn dukes cared for their citizens, they wouldn't start a war.

Why are the 2 dukes stubborn? They didn't answer the mail of the new king. Instead of meeting him and discuss some matters they conspired with Amidonia, prepared for war and gave shelter to corrupt nobles.

@Dj0rel Honestly I don't really care about getting involved in this little spat. I just wanted to point out that there is a legitimate breed of cattle that look like that and it's not due to steroids or 'genetic modification'. It is called the Belgian Blue and has been around for quite a while. It just has a hereditary condition where the cells of it's muscular fiber undergo gross enlargement. Then again I am not saying there aren't cows which are fed steroids and such, I just wanted to shed some light on your image not necessarily being what you might think it is
