As far as I can tell the closest he came to love was with Lady Aidra, but since she passed away he probably has room in his heart for another and if this lady is going to be tagging along with the party for a while maybe that's an opportunity for sparks to fly

Gordon's a feudal lord and Bard was the Tersia family's head knight. They definitely have documents that aren't easily forged proving their identity. Not to mention they are also very well dressed compared to the average peasant, so the village head knows they're a big deal and most likely people of status. Also, the woman regained consciousness and could have easily said that she's fine before going back to sleep. As for offering them lodging openly, apparently it's a lot more common back in the medieval times than we would think and there are Youtube videos about this.
