Wow... Minecraft is still relevant enough in that time to be used as a reference...

And that look the 4-d man had at the end, he is definitely up to something.

....so the last human was a dude who time traveled backward to create life who then time traveled forward to ask some random ass kids to help with his algebra homework when he could have spent the time to do it himself.

I'm calling it, he was a stereotypical jock before the earth went to shit

I don't like or trust him. There is something off about his story. He talked about a successor before. Not to mention that shouldn't the one to solve the equation be the one to gain access to the 5th dimension? It sounds a bit weird to me.

I'm not picking at the manga's story here, but the idea that humanity would get collective depression once we realized we're all alone seems weird. Yeah, it's kinda sad, but don't you think it would be more like "woohoo full speed ahead in colonization of the stars!! Nothing to stop us!!" ?

@pdonk Thousands of years, multiple cultures came and went, technological advancement all for the sole reason of being first. Billions upon billions of people with all the same dream throughout the history of mankind.

All destroyed with the realization that no, there will be no clapping of alien cheeks.

@pdonk If you didn't know, Douman has heavily referenced 'Childhood's End' by Arthur C. Clarke. Karellen, for example, is named after one of the more important alients in the book. In 'Childhood's End', an alien species shows up to help advance humanity rapidly. In doing so, they develop an ultra intelligent hivemind using psychic neo-human child minds. All the adults become super depressed as a result of losing their children to the hivemind and no longer being able to reproduce, similar to how they become depressed in this chapter. Or something like that.

I'm with you, I don't think either situation is so depressing.
