I dont understand why some people hate flashbacks and backstory. Manga is not all about the main character and romance, it's a story....so character development is needed....so backstory is important. This manga is way shorter than others with hundreds of chapter with absolutely no reason to drag. Like komi-san and tokyo revengers.

And this manga definitely hasn't dragged anywhere near on the scale of Komi-san, if at all. (Though with Komi-san I'd say it's less "dragged" and more "getting milked".)

But at least for me, "hate" is far too strong of a word. It's more "wryly amused by the bad timing".

There's nothing wrong with backstory, even for someone who's been more of a plot device than a character, unless it's seriously overdone (which this isn't). It's just definitely not ideal (even for a good storyteller like Shimesaba-sensei) to build up suspense near the climax of a story... then leave the readers dangling to give a side character some deban to explain where she's coming from. Better by far to have that happen earlier, or later.
