Just to throw some feces towards the synopsis and title: Men in general (i.e. majority) will be perfectly fine without marriage, it's usually forced or expected of us after dating for some time.
Marriage is anti-harem mechanic for scummy and/or successful men and security for women and children who long ago had no security. (Also a great stabilization effect since harems = discontent among people and was a great mechanic to stop scummy men making babies and running away scot free which decreases stability massively).
Marriage brings some legal matters in order like inheritance, legal rights to answer for your spouse if the said spouse cannot do this and sometimes tax benefits (though mostly non-existent). But most of the things can be made individually and actually without marriage you have more leeway to appoint person you want not the person you are obligated to give rights by state.
Marriage doesn't decrease much risk of infidelity and any other risks that are in dating stage and other stuff, actually increase risks due to complacency. In times of our elders it was a bit different, now? It's a useless institute that didn't adapt to our modern day changes.
