Mass mind control? You have just fucked your story up for good. Anything is possible after this point. So whenever something happens, you just go "why not mind control?"

Also, as a supposed MC of the game, Rae is pretty worthless as an individual. Her "true plan" is just letting everything play out as normal but make sure Claire stands with the winning side at the end? There seems to be not much planning in that plan. Does she expect her to stand still and watch everyone she knows get killed?
It's less mind control and more like drugging. Salas is very good at directing people with suggestion and manipulating their focus. For example, Arla's (supposed) death could be a suggestion of "when you confront me with Arla, you should kill the one in front of you immediately". Their perspective warped believing themselves to be killing him.

(But I'll not say Salas suggestion isn't a tad overused in the series, but those with suggestions almost always have the desire to act on those suggestions in the first place)

And yeah, Rae intended to let this all play out. She stocked up resources over months, worked to radicalize Claire (remember, poverty is evil!), and ripped up correspondence to ensure her timeline of events is as she expected. Everything is secondary to Claire's well being.

Oh damn, I actually like these additions. Makes the setting feel wider and much more alive. Arla's death was a surprise, though … not a big fan of how it just kinda happened, but I like the impact nonetheless.

They're still going to do
betrayal and separation arc, with Claire locking herself away
, right?
With the way things are going, I suspect so.

Wait, so this is no longer following the novel? Is that because it is incomplete?

it sounds like the LN handled this more in line with the storytelling of previous chapters, though i can see why readers of the LN would be excited to see all this stuff fleshed out, it does feel different to what we've been reading so far

No the novel's complete, it has been for years. It's just expanding upon the final arc because it's both: one of the favorite chapters and the manga is still quite popular. Inori didn't have an editor when she wrote the final arc so having one here and a mangaka who knows how to structure story has allowed it to grow.

In the original light novel, the last chapter has quite a lot of A to B and moving fast to the end. So it's been nice to put more emphasis on certain things.

Yeah she recently talked about how highly rated this arc still is (I believe there was a recent poll or something that she saw) and how that reassures her of her writing ability. She's always self deprecating though so that's normal. She's a big fan of Aonashima's slight changes here and there.

I mean I'm gonna be honest.... Arc 1 shows that she indeed knows how to plan a story rly well, but arc 2 shows to me that she is not that great to rearrange stuff that was stablished and work on after thought. Arc 2 IMO is way inferior in consistency.

I wish she would rewrite without some of the bullshit like messing so much the powerscaling or the "pseudo matrix" crap... idk....

It was a poll on her kofi I believe some time after part 2 but before TAFM. So a bit ago but still something she references often.

can anybody tell me what is "the crown" mentioned here?
THe groups that represent the royalty. Since the king is dead and Thane is still kiiinda taking the power, you could consider all the supporters of Thane and any royalty I would assume.

I never expected the story would get this interesting, after coming from the anime to read the manga, i'm so invested.

Not sure what's with all the complaining, that the story developed into something more than your average slice of life yuri. As if that's a bad thing.

Agency and large populations are always troublesome for plots that revolve around masterminds and protagonists with magic powers. The simplest way out is zombies / mind control / brainwashing, so while this development is boring, is it so surprising? The central innovation of the isekai genre is that any unoriginality can be blamed on the setting rather than the author, who in this conceit is helpless in the face of its inevitable machine-logic.
