Well, it's not just any sewing machine, but one made from mana metal. It probably can sew leather like normal cloth.

Sewing leather armor by hand is doable, but it takes a lot of strength and effort, I suppose. While the workflow for making leather armor involves punching the holes first, then sewing them up later, having the sewing machine made out of durable and strong parts (capable of just punching through leather) makes the workflow similar to that of making clothes.

The downside with machine sewing is that the stiches are weaker than if you hand stitch. That's usually not a problem, but if you want optimal strength, you do it by hand.

There are sewing machines that can sew leather, although they're specialised for it. So this one being able to isn't much of a stretch.
