The story follows a 2 repeating sections structure: buildup and bossfight. Very technically Tida's fight was the first bossfight propper, but it doesn't follow the rest of the narrative style, so it's thougth more as an introduction than a propper section. So up until now we have been in the buildup section, and it's about to be resolved in the first real bossfight. So yes, this is a prologue, we have not seen a propper fight of equals up until this point.

Ah yes, the real boss fights all along were the friends we made along the way~~ LITERALLY.
Major aspect of this series is he needs people around and even if they get along well, they will clash to death eventually because everyone is yandere for someone/something, utterly obsessed with whatever significantly traumatized them. These real boss fights need to be won physically and emotionally/psychologically!
