There must've been a skip or a few of them on this chapter. I'd like to request a reupload of this chapter please or maybe someone could just give me a link to the novel and I'd just search for the area myself where the magic beasts (except Karen I think) can speak to the MC unless i get a specific reply as to where I should read for the latter option. edit: Now that I've rechecked like 10 times over it could seem like he was talking to them but in future chapters he doesn't actually do so as he is confused by what they are saying, feel free to tell me if I'm wrong if there is anything wrong or not with this chapter.

To address your confusion though, things are a bit different in the novel.

For a good portion of the novel, the MC and the magic beasts he befriends cannot talk to each other, but rather, guess what they mean. There are certain chapters in the novel where it's told from the POV of the various other characters and magical beasts which takes away a lot of the guesswork. These alternate POV‌ chapters usually occur after the incident has been told from the MC's POV. I suppose the manga has taken some liberties and consolidated things a bit.
