It's time to deal with the fake translations (MTL)

It's about time for the ownership to clean up the fake translation problem that plagues mangadex. It's an absolute disgrace to allow these frauds to upload alongside actual real translators. There's a reason big groups don't want to upload here anymore. What respectable translator would want to display his work alongside some ESL speaker that uses google translate, comic sans, and AI-upscaled pixelated raws?

I want to see mangadex flourish and grow, in my opinion it has the best user interface and features of all the manga reader websites. I don't want to see mangadex die a needless death. MTL accumulates every day, a giant stain on this great website. Eventually it WILL be too late to address this issue, it will get to a point where translators compeltely lose faith in this website's leadership. Hell, we're nearly there in my opinion.

It doesn't have to be this way. Let's take the right path.

well, these references are not exactly what is discussed but you could see at some extend the perspectives from other contributors and staff, here, here and here (there are issues but how to handle them is difficult), as someone from Latam who also checks alternatives when they not upload in here for Spanish and English, this is something that is becoming prevalent everywhere, there are too many titles that generates interest and just too few with the skills and now even official platforms are trying this

I could support that if it could be proven that it was MTL and there was a better source being uploaded.

I.e, a MTL is fine if there isn't a better translation available. But if mtl uploaders are sniping a series from an existing non-mtl uploader, they need to be punished.

Theres been some authors who make their own official english translations for doujins.....
In some of those, they end up even worse then MTL.

The main issue here is that if this WAS implemented, it solely falls upon the uploader. Say the uploader lies by omission, what’s stopping them? If it was easy to solve via a report, what separates bad human translation from passable MTL? If a group uses AI to refine their human TL, are they also required to tag their chapters as MTL?

A lot of difficult questions need answering before such a large change is implemented

honestly i was thinking of adding in my original comment (giving them a ban if caught lying) but i thought people would disagree or think it was too harsh of a punishment, yeah there is a lot to it and i would personally say that the admins or whoever of this site just a guideline of rules of what would be considered a MLT

im just giving my opinion its understandable not implementing it its up to them

Can we just iono like we can ban specific TL we don’t like, like bad MTL or AS OF RIGHT NOW(31 May 2024 at, at least here 9 in the morning), the “Latest Updates” sections is filled with TL who upload their “latest updates” which I thought “oh new chapter? Yay” but got bamboozled because they TL old chapter like WTF.
TLDR : Can we at least ban specific TL who we thought bad or we wish don’t appear in my feed again?

there is a block function for groups and uploaders, that will hide what you consider annoying, I think there is a limit not sure

The last number I saw was a limit of 25 but I could be horribly mistaken
