Yes, that was what I wanted to point out. If he could take further steps with Ai whom he just met then it wasn't him being reserved at all, contrary to what some say and what Miyuki wants to think.
Yeah, people making excuses for Miyuki are just insane to me, when she clearly said that she felt pleasure just for the thrill of cheating a few chapters back while also expecting everything going back to normal after almost ruining Eiji's life.

The part of that discussion I keep coming back to is, that while she absolutely SHOULD face some hefty consequences for her actions, the frankly sadistic level of punishment some folks are advocating for is a bit gross.

I've finally begun to read the WN as I've finished reading the LN I was reading, but skipping everything until they meet on the rooftop because reasons, because I couldn't stand the manga release schedule anymore. I'm near this chapter. I can't wait to read what happens next. So far, the WN translation is quite good.

Wishing death upon others for disagreeing with you is certainly a choice, you clearly fetishize death and suicide, please seek help, people care about you.
You need to reread that if you think I'm wishing for your death.

I think I get it now though, you weren't enough to keep them around were you? You have to forgive yourself because you never will be.

Your friends will drift away, your family members will die, your lover will leave you and society will change regardless of what you do. None of this is selfish, yet it's entirely selfish to demand that life stay stagnant for you to live in that moment of bliss where they are all with you.

"People care about you." If they truly care, they'd accept my death, mourne me and move on. They wouldn't try to keep me alive like some dancing monkey merely so they don't have to feel sad. Embrace death, for it is reality. Acceptance is the only true path, everything else is just a lie you tell yourself to avoid it.

With this chapter, perhaps we can all agree that "Eiji being shy and reserved" is no longer a valid trigger for Miyuki's cheating. Perhaps what they felt towards is nothing other than friendship disguised as romantic love.

Based off what I read in the light novel, he really isn’t a shy or reserved guy. Not just this chapter. I can’t wait for yall to see how great and emotionally intelligent Eiji is.

...she more or less thinks exactly that in this moment and, if I recall correctly, is somehow glad that she didn't know it back then or she couldn't have guaranteed that Miyuki would have gotten away unharmed.
Can you link me the site you use for the web novel? I’m all caught up with the light novel and I’m craving more.

It's funny, the more we see of the almost cartoonishly ideal support Eiji is receiving, the more I want to learn more about Ai's own circumstances along with the reason she wanted to jump off the rooftop that fateful day.

I understand the more urgent focus on Eiji, but I still can't help but feel that there's a big blind spot in the narration.

That's WN spoiler territory, be sure that you will understand later on why the school being supportive is very important to the story itself.

Agreed. It has always rubbed me the wrong way how other readers jump for joy at the spoilers that have been posted and wish for Miyuki to suffer even more.

I get the catharsis at reading a cheater getting punished, but, holy fuck does the mob mentality take over.

As long as we decide beforehand who'll say "suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem/ always selfish because it'll make others sad/ never the answer because life always gets better" and who'll say "abortion is never anyone else's business/ that child would have an awful life", we can all avoid having to brute force our way through denial and mental gymnastics. Wouldn't that be something?

At the very least you’re not telling someone to off themselves or suffer because “you don’t understand” or some other form of mental gymnastics and projection.

You say that with the assumption that I have zero idea what people have gone through, that I do not understand them.

Pretending to understand the problems and suffering of suicidal people isn't healthy. You are not god. You have not seen and experienced all kinds of suffering in the world to say what is better and what is not. Acting like all problems in the world are one and the same as what you are experiencing or have experienced is being naive.

Being pretentious just to make a point does no good.

If you interpret my statement as "encouraging someone to commit suicide", then you are the problem. You seem stuck thinking "tell someone to live" or "tell someone to die" are the only sides of the argument. You clearly need to think outside of that.

My words are clear: You don't own someone else's life. Thus, you have no right to decide what one chooses to do with it.

Bold of you to assume I’m pretending to understand, you people need to stop projecting that other people who don’t share your exact thoughts haven’t experienced anything bad. That’s frankly just immature.

If my comment comes off as pretentious let me be doubly clear and say that is not my intent, but I can’t help how people interpret text on a forum.

That encouraging comment isn’t directed at you, that’s directed at the dude who had a meltdown at me, and proceeded to tell me to suffer and be unable to take my own life while projecting a fake backstory onto me in some attempt to read me like a book.

Your last comment feels disingenuous because never once have I claimed ownership over someone’s life and decisions, shocker of shocks I’m using my personal experience in life to dictate my thoughts and feelings on the matter, but you people continue to make assumptions.

What is really baffling is how saying it’s not the answer can result in such vitriol, and yes while I bluntly called it selfish, I said quite a bit more than that in my comments which obviously go ignored to nitpick.

The one thing I neglected to mention I think in a reply to you was you’re absolutely right about talking to someone about their problems, the issue I took was calling anything I said as preaching.

You’re the sane one who replied to my comments, your take while I don't totally agree isn’t bad, I want to make sure you know that.

It's because you said "You say that with the assumption that I have zero idea what people have gone through, that I do not understand them." when I made the statement "You don't understand.".

Your experience is yours alone, no matter how similar it is to another. So I believe it is a very bold statement to make. You can't expect one to be able to endure the same suffering as you did. Of course, I won't deny that we, as humans, to some degree have the same level of understanding. Thus, we can share the ability to feel pain and sympathize with each other. But we did not evolve to become completely identical nor have been exposed to the same environment.

In the past, I did not understand how drug abuse could drive someone to suicide. I don't imagine myself doing it and never understood why people would take drugs. Recently, I've learned how much some drugs could torment a person's body, so much they would want to end it by ending their life. I still don't know how painful it really is, but I've come to accept that there are people constantly suffering that unfortunately death is the only way out.

That encouraging comment isn’t directed at you, that’s directed at the dude who had a meltdown at me, and proceeded to tell me to suffer and be unable to take my own life while projecting a fake backstory onto me in some attempt to read me like a book.
Fair enough. I did make the same statement “you don’t understand” so I took that as a response to my comment. My apologies. I will redirect my comment to both sides of the two-sided argument to be completely fair.

Your last comment feels disingenuous because never once have I claimed ownership over someone’s life and decisions, shocker of shocks I’m using my personal experience in life to dictate my thoughts and feelings on the matter, but you people continue to make assumptions.
I will tone it down and rephrase it: "You have no right to say anything about what one chooses to do with their life". If your view that "suicide is selfish" is something that you apply to yourself alone and not project it onto others, then I have no issues with that.

The statement "Over the years I’ve seen people get upset whenever someone calls suicide selfish, but the reality is just that, it is." particularly "but the reality is just that, it is." is very strong as if it's establishing it is as general fact, rather than an expression of how you viewed it on your own life.

So I took issue on that. If that wasn't the intent, then I believe we can reach an agreement.

You’re the sane one who replied to my comments, your take while I don't totally agree isn’t bad, I want to make sure you know that.
Good to hear that then. I feel the strong need to make the point because I believe suicide shouldn't be a matter of arguing whether it's good/bad and what is right/wrong. Instead, we should be focusing our efforts on how to prevent it.

In order to not spam this comment section with a million different replies to sections I’ll say this,

You’re absolutely right about it not being a matter to argue, especially in hindsight of this being a manga forum. I also feel strongly with this, but have experienced things in such a way, that it 100% leads to me coming off way too mean spirited/blunt about it. Focusing efforts for prevention is absolutely the best take away.

And real talk I’m glad this was a more reasonable back and forth, thank you.
