You have to memorize the periodic table in Japan? I was told to memorise the first 20 as well but the entire table was always supplemented at the back of the paper so I never did. The mnemonics are nice, better than whatever my classmates and I came up with back then, just garbled nonsensical noises amalgamating the letters
