Even in the LN and WN chapters of this event, I have to wonder if Ryoma isn't an Imperial Space Marine in training. I mean this plan has Exterminatus written all over it. The Emperor would be proud.

For those commenting on the moat and such from the translations of the rewrite of this story I seem to recall this being in a canyon.....and the moat was wall to wall. I also don't recall him making a platform for archers with them instead being towards the front initially with some people with spears and what amounted to hooks on poles to push and pull goblins in and push them down. So yeah since they changed most the specifics of the plan and decided to equip people with oversized guando's they are calling spears, the only thing that's new here that doesn't seem weird is that he made a elevated platform for ranged fighters.

@botodopo So true. It's basically the superman dilemma. Are you required to save the day just because you have the capability to do so? To truly keep a low profile, the character would either have to ignore a lot of shit going on around them, or find a way to help secretly. The first makes the character rather selfish and heartless, the second just seems tedious.

I honestly don't know why most writers even bother with the keeping a low profile plot, since the characters so rarely follow through with it.

I don't think the mangaka drew up this scene quite the way it was described in either version of the novel (LN or WN). For one thing the novel kinda implied they were inside an area of the mines where it was a little more open but they dug the moat out to completely cut the path off wall to wall. The second was those spears being a little bit over-exaggerated. I mean those things are practically pikes looking at that. I'd say this is more of a flawed adaptation in this case. I do recall the spears and poles had hooks so they could basically push the goblins back into the acid moat since some of them would use the bodies of their companions to springboard up the other side of the moat.

...what're the kids with the spears gonna do? poke around at the floating half-melted goblin carcasses in the pool?
