...havent we already been over this? I feel like this is the third time we got panties girl's flachback

In what world is what he did not active grooming
He basically asserted himself as her new father figure
being a dad is not grooming and maybe you need to read about some actual real life grooming: a groomer exploits a child’s emotional and social inexperience in order to make the child reliant on them and then socially isolate them from parents and other authorities in order to sexually abuse them

Alucia might have been isolated but it wasn’t Beryl that isolated her; she might have been dependent on him, like any child, but he didn’t foster that dependency; and instead of isolating her he exposed her to more people and more opportunities

obviosly there’s a icky element where the author pairs an 40 yo with his 20 yo students but it’s not the same as grooming

He's a teacher. Teachers in most cultures are grown ups that deserve the same respect as father/mother figures.
Yeah thats sort of the joke

With her dad being a poor communicator and father figure, now it makes sense why she has a crush on the teacher. But it's still weird, plus she's not the only student that feels this way :haa:

Did they ever actually state his age? I always thought he was in his mid 30s at most

They did. Even in the anime is the same(n't). However, the case of the pope's betrayal is a hush-hush kept under wraps. More details will be revealed later down the line, but if you've watched the anime, you know the why and how.
Appreciate that, I wasn't aware of a deviation with the anime. Haven't seen it myself, would you recommend it?

I'm assuming solid 40s at least. Adventurer girl said in 1.2 that it'd been 20 years since she last saw him, and I figure he couldn't have been younger than mid-20s when he was training everyone.

It is more of the manga being the deviation, shuffling around the volumes/chapters and adding extra scenes or outright changing it in fact (in the anime, Citrus's background is a more generic parents take daughter to learn at dojo while the manga changed it outright in this chapter), for the better imo.

In that sense, I can't quite recommend the show as I consider manga being vastly superior. If you want to burn some time looking at a couple HEMA-approved coreography, you can watch it, but the swordfighting portion is just a small fraction of the entire show's runtime.

Yeah, I truly love the manga more so for HOW they portray the sword fighting. The fight choreography is so well mapped in the manga that it just hits extremely well if that makes sense. I appreciate the run down dude, you have a great week!

I haven't seen an adaptation glow-up like this since One Punch Man. God, this manga is so good.
