Curses in Japanese culture are moral punishments for sins. Especially if they come from the anger of cruelly offended people. Draw your own conclusions.

I'd like to say true but can you IMAGINE being a woman in that family? It's bad enough you get all of that along with all of the over 70 things that could happen to a woman during pregnancy.

I find it strange that Mutsu as the leader of the Ebisumori would make her younger sister, Yoshie, bear the burden of carrying a cursed child, she just didn't seem to have that kind of disposition, and who did the Ebisumori have as a target for the curse, what was the emergency? Or was this an attempt to birth the next priestess since Nana was born premature?

This is very sad, still, thank you very much for the scanlation :meguuusad:(y)

I have absolutely no idea what is going on.

I can't tell any of these black haired women apart from eachother, I dont know who is whose sister or mother or aunt or grandma. I have no idea what they're talking about, no idea what this practically means for Kaya's sister, don't understand what this could mean for any of the males in the family.

I still have no idea what Kaya is

The chapter with the ghost who was actually a molester was great. Everything afterwards has been an incomprehensible mess. Like what the fuck is going on. Stop throwing around the word "curse" like it has some inherent meaning that doesn't require any build up or further explanation. Replace every instance of "curse" with any other noun and it would be about as coherent.

In case anyone needs a reference like I do, the family tree was shown and translated in chapter 14. It certainly makes much more sense now, but still raises a lot of questions. Particularly that the family line in the fourth generation wasn't continued by the priestess, Izumi, but by a sister Michiko. Also that the first younger sister of the family, Mitsuba, actually had children but one of them is now blotched out on the family tree. It's slowly starting to come together but it seems we don't quite have all the puzzle pieces...

Mutsu seems to be old fashioned and in the end put her responsibility as head of the family over everything. Also she would have been taught the same thing by her mother that’s how the Ebisumori women shall live. It’s amazing she doesn’t indoctrinate Nana as much.

I don’t think she would attempt to produce another priestess through her sister.
She had Mirai herself. If she think Nana is a “failure”, she could have done so through her own second child. Nana also gave up giving birth to a priestess once Kaya (the 8th priestess) was born, so there’s probably an unnegotiable rule in the family that you never attempt to create more than one at a time. The other babies can only be either normal children, or curse.

The question is... who does Mirai want to curse so bad that she did this to herself? I don't think it was just her mother.
If I had to guess, the entire family. Possibly even Kaya. Mirai was neglected by her mother, and then finds out that the person she CALLED her mother was essentially used as a suicide assassin. Then finding out the ENTIRE FAMILY is built off of things like this... it's no small wonder that she wants the family to burn.

Why do I always happen to read these at night 😔 I'm a little confused at what's happening, but this is still pretty scary to read. Perhaps Kaya saw her grandaunt in the courtyard.....wonder who was killed when the grandaunt died.

Is it possible that Kaya was intended to be a cursed baby and that's why she is so strong, but a cursed baby is still needed?
The key is whether the baby is allowed to be born, or have to chew its way out of the mother.

Kaya was born as a human, so she seems to have a consciousness of her own. Thus, a priestess.
Curse are produced by forcing the pregnancy to continue until the tipping point where the baby forced its way out. By then, it’s just a weapon, no longer a person.

The series turns the "disgusting" way. Erm...I don't know, whether I want to continue with it

thats what im getting at, kaya one way or another "terminated" the cursed baby and was born normally (maybe a little late)

These black haired women look so alike because they are duplicates, or "vessels" of the original priestess. So, Kaya is also a vessel and that's the reason she more or less gets possessed every time she defeats a specter.

This whole clone stuff is what the curse is, to give birth to vessels of the original priestess blessed by the gods, and thus retain the power in the bloodline.

All the problems with Kaya's mom (Mirai) arise because she wanted to give birth to a priestess, even though she was Ebisumori Mutsu's second daughter and therefore not a priestess herself (the tradition says that only the first child gets the Cursed Womb spell), out of jealousy to her elder sister Nana.

The reason Kaya is very strong is because the more time the fetus stays in the cursed womb, the stronger they become (also the reason Auntie Nana is weak as she was born prematurely). Mirai is now trying to give birth to a particularly powerful priestess with her second daugther to take revenge against the entire Ebisumory family or something like that.

I hope this answers your doubts @SciFiMisc :salute:

I..... holy fuck
This manga is about fighting ghosts, and yet the most horrific monsters are entirely human.

The question is... who does Mirai want to curse so bad that she did this to herself? I don't think it was just her mother.
Probably the whole clan.
From what we see of Mirai, she does seem to genuinely love her family (as in her current one). I think she's scared that Kaya and (maybe) her unborn child could be discovered by the clan. She wants to protect them from what happened to her aunt.

I'm not sure where her unborn child fits into this. It doesn't seem to be a full-on curse yet since Mirai is still alive. Maybe the child is partially a curse where it still has humanity like Kaya but can still be used to curse someone? No idea.
