Sometimes Amanda gets flak for not being nearly as intelligent as she thinks she is.

I would point to this chapter and argue that while not necessarily the smartest character, she is by no means the dumbest character either. Her real problem is that what genuine flashes of insight she does have get twisted beyond use by her colossal ego and tendency to get carried away by her own eccentricity.
