So is this implying she might not actually be dead, but her death was faked? Cause they couldn't identify the corpse. Were they a cult or some shit? And the best friends' father is gonna turn out to have been a part of the group and died due to them.

To anyone looking for clues to make sense of all the conflicting data: It appears likely that Sensei drew inspiration from Butterfly Effect (2004). One of its key plot elements is that jumping back in time to change the past is a family power (and tends to traumatically break the minds of those who use it too much, not unlike Higurashi and the more recent Re: Zero).

Hint hint strangely-emotionless Yotsu-nii, and very likely Mommy Dearest.

Not to mention that (for possible future reference) the power actually comes from within and just needs a emotional focus point (journals about the past, home movies, a beloved keepsake).

I've been wondering... When the brother, Mitsuha told Yotsuha that their mother died from an accident, does most of you actually take what he said at face value? I know I didn't and I kinda guess that he's the real culprit behind her death. But how, I couldn't have guess I just thought he might did so especially because he wants to protect Yotsuha and why I eliminate him from possible list of Clover true identity very early on.
Ymmv, but there's reason to believe Sensei drew inspiration from Higurashi as well as from Butterfly Effect (2004). It's not an uncommon trope in animanga regardless... but if you've seen all of Higurashi, you know a few times over that good intentions to protect and love someone can get very twisted. Much more twisted than "I've seen a future where my beloved sister died (in childbirth, practically killing herself to protect Uichi [like here], an alt-Uichi deserted her and she killed herself, etc) so I've decided I have to kill him to save her".

Oh man, I'm getting bad vibes all over the place, but at least if she herself isn't the culprit I'm going to be fine.

How did she not know her own mothers name? Did she know her by a different name? And she didn't ever try to investigate her own family despite actually suspecting her brother for a while.
This is a mess. Looks like some stuff is being retconed for the sake of the story.

Dammit so the mother is likely alive. But this kinda came outta nowhere, so I hope her role isn't too big. Unless this manga wants to go on for 200 chapters or something.

Poor Yotsuha though. When will she stop being tortured 😭

Also I feel like Fuu is doing a lot of really heartwarmingly kind things that if she really is faking them and is evil, that it makes her even more fucked up. I suspect maybe the author just wants us to feel that though.

That's a possibility but I also search the meaning of three-leaf clover in Japan which I believe has something to do with Mitsuha's hidden characteristic since we know nothing about him at this point. Apparently, it symbolizes Faith, Hope and Love which I believe are the feelings he held for his sister, Yotsuha. That also why I cross him out from the suspect. Talking about his personality, kinda obvious he's the way he is due to their mother. Yotsuha has to deal with her for a few years but imagine dealing with her for most part of your life?

My theory is that the mother was still alive, possibly having taken the place of the older brother due to how they would be the one driving her instead after they got their license.
