Most likely the chapters are not told in a linear manner. Since the structure of the story is not based on an overarching arc or an adventure with a set goal in mind(for example; a journey to find macguffin to kill the Demon Lord), the chapter to chapter's plot can be independent from each other and being a self contained story, with minor background info(like backstory of Kino or her Master) to connect to each other.

this chapter god damn kills me, i know its fiction, but god damn when you see the deaths of so many characters, which showed the beauties of life, and especially a happy child smile, just to have that snapped away hurts the heart. 😭
