Within the setting its been explained that only nobility have magic and the ability to pass along the magic through bloodlines. And I believe its been implied that all the magic light shit in this kingdom stems from the royal family. No blood heirs to inherit magic light powers, no more magic light shit. It seems the plan was to quickly marry her off, get her to pop out a baby, and then the whole deception wouldn't matter anymore because the light magic line of sucession would continue. BUT if she be gay, and hooking up with a "dark magic witch" the whole plan goes to shit. Got to kill a witch and force your daughter to get pregnant to keep the magic lights on, it seems.
