Lol, IRL the Shinano was the carrier conversion of the third Yamato class battleship hull. She was sunk 10 days into her maiden voyage by a single submarine through peak IJN stupidity, an act of God guiding and detonating all four of the criminally faulty Mk14 torpedoes, and in spite of USN stupidity.
Almost everything aligned to immediately kill it as soon as possible. She took a large portion of her crew with her and remains the largest ship sunk by submarine. To have their character introduced in one panel as Shinano and then immediately face down dead in the water next panel is perfecto.
To have the shinano be brought back would’ve been hilarious and the “super Shinano” that is nearly naked underneath is even funnier. (The Shinano shipped out before her watertight doors were installed inside so she too didn’t have protection under the deck).
Normally I would think it was just coincidence but I doubt it as ship girl fans aren’t likely to pass up a chance to turn historical tidbits into their design.
