but why translate a series already being translated though? theres hundreds of untranslated gems out so there no need to take over a series already being translated

Author have said it again and again that most of their revenue comes from people ordering merch because they get around 80-90% royalties off those while their manga sales go through publisher, manufacturer etc. leaving only scraps for them. Ive seen hundreds and perhaps almost a thousand series get axed in the japanese side without getting translated. However almost all scanlated series ive read managed to survive due to overseas merch and attention. If you guys could actually see into the japanese side of the business youd realize how much anime and media rely on overseas transactions.

And i said theres tons of authors out there thanking their overseas fans for buying their merch and keeping them afloat. Also how would overseas pirates sink manga sales when its the native japanese people buying their manga and deciding its fate? you ever think of that? Why would the very same people who can decide a mangas very fate decide to read a scanlated chapter?
