So a couple of things got me feeling weird about this Manga (like it's general direction and plot).
1) so like I always figured it was going down the romance route, but at this point we've all but abandoned the initial premise and namesake of Kusonoki having failed to debut in high school and seeking out the MC to learn how to make more friends and talk and be generally socially astute. All we've really gotten is her becoming more isolated. The boys are overbearing and just seem to want her for her looks and the girls are jealous and spiteful and not even trying to hide it. More than anything it feels like she's a frightened animal hiding behind the mc at this point.
The MC also isn't really helping. It feels like he's enabling her to the point where I'm worried they're encroaching on a co dependent relationship (though that's probably me exaggerating). He isn't giving her useful tips on how to be social or goal posts or setting up good meetings with other classmates. It kinda feels like he's just going along with what she wants against his will and half asking anything else. Like when he introduced his obviously horny friend with ulterior motives to her. The conclusion to that was also weird. Like yes he was dumping her on him without thinking of her but at the same time in the first chapter he literally only agreed to be temporary friends with the promise they'd stop being friends once she learned how to make friends.
I mean this kinda makes Kusunoki come across as a little more malicious than I know is intended, but the way she acts is much closer to someone trying to seduce or turn an unrequited romance into a mutual feeling. Like going back now her actions in the first chapter feel a lot more intentional and a lot less shy or having to do with making friends. If anything she should be the one proactive in setting tasks like talking to xyz girl and asking advice on how to make friends with classmates.
2) I also am not getting the drama with the black haired girl. I had to reread the first chapter specifically because I forgot, but all I saw is that she said something rude about the MC behind his back... which somehow resulted in him getting sick talking to girls and being terrified of her even now. I mean not to downplay someone's trauma, but following that logic Kusonoki just lost the ability to make same sex friends.
From what else I remember they ran into each again in high school in an earlier chapter, but she didn't remember him and he got all weird. I honestly think her causing him bad memories is fine, but the extent of power he gives her and some off hand insult he wasn't even supposed to hear is insane to me. Especially as a high schooler he should realize that's just how people can be sometimes (like am I supposed to believe a middle schooler (even in Japan (actually Especially in Japan)) never heard of gossip?). It shouldn't control his life to this level. Like if his sole reason of avoiding a dodgeball tournament was because some girl from middle school he kinda liked because she was cute but said something mean behind his back would see him mess up and say something mean behind his back again, then there's a problem. It would be more logical if the experience made him question everyone's internal opinion about him or what people say when he isn't listening and more paranoid and anxious in general (which isn't really the case (and would also be another issue to address)).
The way I see it either she truly doesn't remember him and he's still that terrified of the idea of a middle school girl insulting him behind his back (the insult wasn't even that bad) or she does remember him and is so obsessed with him she followed him to his high school choice (probably true all things considered it being a manga) and the latter is the same.
Would be hilarious if the first friendship milestone for Kusonoki is the black haired girl (and it's like genuine and not a trick). To that though this series desperately needs a better supporting cast because as is there's no actual characters outside the MC worth socializing with.
Overall I just can't get a handle on what's going on. It feels like the author pulled the premise out of a hat and forgot about it themselves a few chapters in.
