Like v. Follow

Is there some distinction between liking and following a group? I can't really think of why I would ever want to choose only one of those options and not the other. Unless there is some divergence between those features being planned, simplifying the group page by removing "like" could be reasonable.

I like some groups for releasing quality stuff. I don't want to follow every single one of their releases though, especially if I'm only interested in one.
