I almost forgot about that "everyone will spread rumor yada yada if you talk to me" trope....I thought we already step ahead of this

Ugh. Can’t Japanese authors write non-Japanese characters well such that they aren’t just a blonde Japanese character?

Everytime I see a “non-Japanese” character, they are just a boisterous character with same Japanese mannerism and customs as everyone else in the story universe

I really like this manga, but man these manga coming out with the same basic, average looking mc with no self esteem is annoying "don't talk to me for a while at school" like fuck everybody else, grow some balls and stand out from the crowd.

I was about to say, this hierarchy bs is stupid. Just talk to people?? If people ask, just tell them you met outside of school??? MAKE IT EASY ON YOURSELVES!?????

I guess you and the others here don't understand asian culture. Tall poppy syndrome is a thing. At least in my old highschool people collectively loved cutting down the tall poppy. It isn't a pleasant thing to go through on the receiving end. The way I understand it is that the US doesn't have this embedded in its culture.

Ffs just act normally at school. No need to complicate things.

I don't know what a tall poppy is and I don't really care. However, a cancerous culture like that won't disappear if nobody fights against it.

Tall poppy syndrome is a fancy way of labeling the social phenomena of people applying group pressure to someone who stands out, like a "tall poppy flower".

And forcing the one who stands out to conform to the social norms that the group deems "normal".

A very good evening, everyone. I hope all is well. The original Japanese chapter released very recently following the ransomware attack that affected Niconico, the website that hosts this manga alongside many others. As such, we had no choice but to wait. The next update will be on August 16th, and we will try to have the chapter out within a couple days following the release.

We also switched to a different upscaling model. Let us know if you prefer this over the other.

Have a great rest of your evening,

- Anth
In my humble opinion, this one retains too much of that AI feel to it, the other one looked more natural and sharper

Not the fucking "nooo popular girl don't interact with me at school or the mob of irrelevant background characters who really care about your love life for some reason will get mad and make me feel slightly uncomfortable" cliche.
I want to see a manga where a guy learns how to fight just so he can fend off the Mob that doesn't want him to interact with the popular girl, we can call it.....
"The mob characters in my school don't want me to talk with the class idol so I learned how to fight"

Japanese people don't interact with foreigners much let alone travel outside Japan. They have no idea how other people behave.

For everyone commenting about that one line and doesn't mind spoilers, I read the LN (not caught up but far enough)

He doesn't have a "nobody" reputation in school. He is basically number 1 public enemy. He's very disliked. She's the complete opposite. She's popular to the point where every person, all over the school, is very invested in her life/love life. So him avoiding them talking at school isn't for his sake but her sake, because she's very uncomfortable with all that attention and being scrutinized.

I think the extremity of it is kind of weird (but it's fiction, so it is what it is), but his concerns were proven to be warranted later on. But I have no idea if the "backlash" would've lessened if he introduced their friendship gradually rather than out of the blue, considering how bad his reputation is.
