No , it very much is a just a manga. Your bullshit pseud melty over people enjoying reading a revenge story isn't fooling anyone and isn't going to change people's view of this. People like the catharsis of seeing bad people get what's coming to them. It's a fantasy in a story.
It sounds more likely you've been put off by the edgyness of the subject and are insecure about other people enjoying it when you don't. So go on some midwit rant about how it isn't accurate and make reaching claims about the moral the author is trying to convey.
Are you certain none of this hasn't rubbed off on you, even the off-chance possibility? You call me names like a bully would, and immediately dismiss my posts, even though I am using nothing more than simple literary elements and making 'reaching claims' through context clues and observation.

Are you truly omnipotent enough to know that all these commenters are people who simply thought "It's just a manga" ? Even though you did (technically lol) cyberbully me without giving a single care in the world, I forgive you. You aren't my enemy, and neither am I your's, even if I am just a midwit to you.

Since despite decade of research, there has never been even the slightest established connection between media consumption and violent behavior (from reputable studies, you can always find someone willing to say anything for money). It has been studied as long as psychology has been around. They blamed Jack the Ripper on penny dreadful. They blamed 50s greaser delinquents on Superman. Real murders have been blamed on Child's Play movies. It's all nonsense and it's nothing new.

Also, they insulted you. There was no cyberbulling- repeated behaviour, aimed at scaring, angering or shaming those who are targeted. They just called you a name. Don't belittle actual victims for points on the Mangadex boards of all places.

Man, the fact that viciously punishing her son's killers brings Maria no pleasure is oddly sad, like she's been doing a depressing chore.
Not really, if anything it makes her boring. Cuz then what's the point of all of this? Why torture them? Why create a murder house? She plans to kill them so it's not their gonna learn anything. I guess she wants them to feel the same pain her son did but again, she plans to kill them so it's not like their gonna remember this experience. Their suffering is meaningless if they're just gonna die. The only reason she would torture them (and if this story was any good beyond its premise) would be that yes, she does enjoy it and she gets off to the control she had over the last moments of these kid's lives. That would actually make her a lot more interesting.

But I guess not cuz Maria said so. What's her motive? Just killing the bullies as revenge? If that were true she would just kill them, she wouldn't bother with the jigsaw traps or games and she certainly wouldn't create a murder house. Why make a show of it if you don't enjoy it? What is any of this for if it isn't for you?

Is no one going to question how Kinugawa is so resistant? All those parts that got cut off from him and he didn't bleed to death crying, faint or nothing. He's insane.

You have the gall to accuse me of bullying when you opened up this entire conversation belittling and shaming people for reading this. Go soak your head.
And to answer your question, no it hasn't rubbed off. You're no more omnipotent than me buddy. The difference is I give people the benefit of the doubt and don't assume the worst of them. You've clearly made your mind up about what the commenters are thinking behind the scenes.

Revenge is pleasurable on a biological level, too. In studies, when people perform retaliatory acts of aggression, there is activity in brain regions associated with reward. However, the satisfaction is short-lived.

This stuff is 100% unrealistic. Everyone here (I mainly assume minors) who just loves fawning over violence without honor or humanity has to understand that. there aren't villains like Okaya and Johan Liebert that just smile at you once, show you one piece of evidence, and then boom you're their slave to torture/abuse. that doesn't happen. you can't get shot multiple times with a crossbow, lacerated multiple times on your tendons, literally exploded and shot full of shrapnel, and then chainsawed like you're a nu-metal fan. none of the human biology works like that. chainsaws don't even work like that. the moment she touched the fabric of his boxers, the fabric would've been caught in the chain, pulling the entire chainsaw into his chest cavity, most likely getting stuck on guts/bone.

Another way to think about (if you enjoy the literary elements of the work and not just the violence and art, or if you like religion) is to think about the symbology of the protagonist, Maria. She has been symbolized as "Holy Mother Mary" numerous times, so that means it's safe to assume her son symbolizes Jesus. When he was born, all he did was cry and Maria correctly assumed that he was getting it all out as early as possible (again, that doesn't happen). Her son was essentially preparing to bear the sins of humanity and all that crap and was crucified. Maria then goes off for all the torture you all seem to positively enjoy...

Whether you're religious or not, do you think the Jesus who lived on our planet would've wanted his mother to act as Maria did? Would you want your parents to obsess over your death, committing inhumane acts... instead of becoming truly strong and moving on, staying true to that same person you knew them as...?

You're right, this is unrealistic. I doubt the general readership was thinking that this reflected reality. If you can't suspend your disbelief enough for this manga, then that's fair, but you should consider dropping it in that case

I'm not sure what you think people are getting out of this manga. I can't speak for everyone, of course, and there are certainly going to be people who just like the torture porn and graphic gore, but that's not the only thing going on here

Personally, I enjoy the heavy tragedy of it all. The futility of it all. Maria is a dead woman walking, only hanging on to life long enough to enact bloody vengeance against her son's killers. Of course her son wouldn't want her to obsess over his death and commit inhumane acts, that's the point. This is one part character study, one part Saw movie, all parts tragedy

If it's not for you, that's understandable and perfectly okay, but it's rude to make assumptions about strangers and then lecture them about it

'ppl aren't able to win against gods' lol that line goes hard but also a bit ironic considering most jrpgs are about killing god(s)

i mean it's prolly for the best if he got killed off but would be interesting if maria had the funds/power to just like drop him off in a random foreign country to where he'd have to live out the next 3 decades of his life always looking over his shoulder

I think that's why Temu Terminator and her little sidekick see her as a god: she's punishing these little assholes for their crimes, as though enacting divine retribution. The criminals experience pain and fear similar to what they inflicted, then stop being a problem to anyone else. Her actions are focused and devoid of human folly, and it's because of her lack of emotion getting in the way that she can pull off the perfect revenge.

That does make her less human, so she's unrelatable by design, but I find her fascinating in of itself.

OR she’s just a sociopathic crazy person who thinks killing the kids who bullied her son will change anything when in fact it won’t.

It literally saved that one girl from being bully's sex slave, and probably many more future victims like her. Criminals needs to face justice.

Since this genre of manga has overpowered bullies who can avoid all consequences even for rape and murder, the solution is the same as in medieval times, where bandits were hiding from law in forests, so when some of them got captured, they would be publicly murdered in painful way. That wasn't sociopathy, just sensible actions in more brutal world, just like the fictional world of edgy manga.

that's pretty tame compared to atrocities he's been doing
should've saved the eyes for the last
chop his limbs one by one, then shove it in his ass every time

edit: also, should've used rusty bone knife rather than a chainsaw

What was she ever trying to change? It's to watch the fuckers die miserably.

I actually winced seeing the chainsaw on his dick. Well that’s three down & two more to go. I really don’t believe Maria would have his phone near her but we’ll see what the author has in store for us. Thanks for the translations.
