I mean, spicy foods might temporarily give your mouth a kick but i feel like an overall 'warm stew'/hotpot/etc would be ideal for a cold day or so versus something 'punchy', tho i can imagine some ppl enjoying a spicy pho

I've had fried tofu, idk how intense mapo tofu is but i wouldn't mind it as a small side to get used to it than it being a whole bowl lol

(Twice cooked pork sounds like it could be good depending on the crispiness (tho maybe with fried rice too versus steamed, one place i saw having it as an option only had it at 'lunch'/before a certain time as opposed to also it being late at night, otherwise i guess i'd pick the fried chicken, although while meshinuma seems to enjoy himself/not be too picky surprised we don't see more chapters of him cooking for himself. maybe one day he'll visit home and make a huge meal portion for his family)

I remember eating spicy ramen like this lol, it was absolutely destroying me but so tasty I couldn't stop eating it.

I don't believe Japanese people when they say something is spicy tbh

Spice tolerance might be lower but there is that "Korean fire noodle challenge", tho i'd hope some restaurants would have a proper spice to their meals as opposed to something store bought, but Meshinuma does tend to eat meat/filling stuff than stuff super spicy/bitter or so

Oh that is true, that's a thing nowadays. At the same time it's a popular complaint of foreigners living in Japan that restaurants running spice challenges usually don't present anything above a tickle 🤔

LOL i wonder if foreigners are banned from those kinda challenges unless they double the amount of spice when they see a non asian, I do hear some places will turn away non Japanese overall but that's a slightly diff story (but that would be one way to get a discount/not pay if it's not a 't-shirt as a reward')

tho there was also that foodie challenge with the 'kilo'/amount or so
