I think there's a lot to it. I wrote about it once; it'd basically be a perfectly safe if a little spicy thing in a normal teen romance. But here, because she didn't fall in love with a cute boy in her class, but a nice older guy who loves cats... everything is different. It's unfair, weighty, and sad; when it could easily not be any of those. I think it's an interesting twist.

But I understand why people are rubbed the wrong way by it. Partially, I think you're supposed to be. It is odd. It is unfair. It is, honestly, skeezy. But it's sort of just understood and "hey, that's the way it is man" is the way a lot of people respond to deeply unfair parts of life that we just accept. I think there's something compelling about that inherent pessimism in this magical setting, that cat/girls don't get to just... be both, and unless they do something very serious they'll slowly be unable to become a human anymore.

The time reduction is progresive, they can wait the 18th birthday and maybe 1 year when the time will 1h, I am not sure where in early chapters she said by the time reduction

Ah yes, a Japanese author pulling the classic 'fuck a minor like 10 years younger than you, it will be fine' card which will now devolve all comment sections for this manga going forward on mangadex into a culture war... This happens ways too often.

TL;DR of how these always play out: western readers get a reaction ranging from a large ick to calling the author a pedo apologist, while the eastern readers find it 'eh' but don't see a bit issue because 'its technically legal and they love each other'. Cue lots of insults being thrown around.

Oh and must not forget the 'its just fiction, why do you have to take it so seriously?' crowd
