It's Japan. If he had gone to therapy, the therapist would have told the old Konishikawa that he's a perfect human being: giving his all for the sake of the company and profits, disregarding everything inessential in life (family, etc). If his wife couldn't deal with a perfect Japanese man, then she's the faulty one and he was right to cut her off from his life. With the distraction gone, he can dedicate himself even more to the company.

i mean i think shes a bitch in the present, not necessarily in the past or at whole fault for the divorce/breakup,
what happened 14 years (at least) in the past is still mostly unknown, but in this interaction yes shes the bitch, shes remarried with a 14 year old her own, seemingly well adjusted and happy. But the mere sight of him turns that right around on a dime, almost like a mask coming off, while our MC at first was still clumsy but gradually hardened over the course of it as he had redress himself in his old mentality.
But yea, 14 years at least married, knowning fMC probably likes him but goes out of her way to throw his insecurities in his face to undermine their chances, shes neither moved on nor willing too.
So yea, she might not have been the bitch or cause of the break, but in this situation she is indeed the bitch at this time

People acting like she has some ground to stand on when she was openly hostile and trying to make him look bad in front of his subordinate in a public place. Considering what she was saying when comparing herself to Misato, I have to assume she made little effort to mend the relationship when they were engaged.

Bingo, hit the nail on the head. Whether or not the mangaka was being exactly that sagacious in writing it, it's well done and hopefully most readers have the maturity to see the point.

She's a pretty great character and I actually hope we get to see more of her and maybe they can both grow past their bitterness and at least be cordial.

She'll be at the wedding, calling it now.

Because this feels like the author needed to get the backstory before a wrap up in like a few chapters
Just such a random way to introduce her out of the blue.

If you're paying attention to the evolving covers on the main page, the original manga is at probably the end of Vol. 7 by now while we (the English translation) are only at the start of Vol. 6 -- so we've likely got at least 15 chapters to go, several more arcs I reckon, and that's IF the story has somehow already concluded. (Someone please ask their Japanese friends, no spoilers though)
