He had been fed mana-boosting resources when young that his body was unable to digest.
Which would only clog up the system.
That said, as it stands currently , it was useless at best ,and might be a hindrance that is reducing his power at worst.
Even if he might have been able to use it in the future... It is a pretty darn good deal still...

it is honestly a fair trade for improving their mana/qi flow and teaching them his techniques.
Considering opening up the flow in the first place made the guy get 2x as strong mana just from that.
