The original Japanese also said "Sir", I think it's the correct term in the military to say "Sir" to higher ups regardless of gender.

Our MC also seemed to be looking forward to that. In a meta sense it feels like the author wanted to last it to a bit longer but thought the arc was dragging on long enough as is.
