Karen is more my type of girl, but it is Asahi that is on the cover, so I have no expectations, but we all know this is just author-san just mining for feels, but I'm not falling for it. In the next chapter or two, it will swing back in the other direction, or probably someone else will get added to the harem. Not sure how long I'll carry on reading, if it goes harem silly. However, I can see Karen's helper monkey sticking her ore in to run interference very soon.

We all have different tastes, which is why these stories tend to fill a harem with all the different archetypes, so we all have someone to root for. That is why most of us end up backing the losing horse. author-san has their taste/choice, which will never marry up with most of us. I've never win in harems, since I like tall strong, sporty, tanned, confident, calm, intelligent, funny women, and it looks like most of Japan disagrees with me ;-)
This. Yeah, I can definitely see the pendulum swinging back the other way. Once people start noticing that Asahi is actually affected by Kageyama getting closer to Maezono, it’ll naturally push Kageyama to redirect his attention toward her.
Asahi is cute, no doubt, but Maezono is just as compelling—and honestly, she feels like the better match for Kageyama in terms of growth. Their dynamic has this sense of mutual push, like with the test where they challenged each other to get the highest score. There’s a clear sense of progression there.
With Asahi, it’s been more playful. The teasing is fun, and yeah, they’ve had some genuinely emotional moments, but it doesn’t feel like it pushes Kageyama forward in the same way. Meanwhile, Maezono brings out a more driven side of him, and vice versa.
Even the summer setup says a lot—Kageyama is the reason Maezono isn’t just spending it alone grinding for exams. That kind of impact matters. It’s not just about chemistry, but how they influence each other’s direction, and right now Maezono just feels like she fits that lane better. I’m not saying Asahi can’t grow into that, but as of now, Maezono is already there.

I know, but to be fair for her, confessing to your friend is actually hard because more often than not, in their age, an unreciprocated confession may mostly just result to their friendship crumbling. Girl doesn't want that to happen so it's definitely understandable.

i mean its been clearly shown she is severely introverted so the only way she knows how to communicate with the MC is by being smug and by trying hard for him to notice her, she isnt even close to a 'tsundere' not sure why so many people here are claiming that.
